Discovery and Vision

At The Greige Haven, we began by listening to the home — studying the light, the flow, and the bones to understand what it needed. The potential was there, but hidden behind dark rooms, dated finishes, and a front entry that felt closed off. One of the first decisions was to open the front of the house. Replacing the original door and sidelights with a custom six‑panel glass door immediately changed the way light moved through the entry and set the tone for the entire project. We also made an early call to keep the existing wood plank flooring. It was in excellent condition, and while not our original palette, it quickly became part of the design vision — a budget‑smart choice that added warmth, character, and continuity throughout the home. Painting the exterior became part of the vision too — not to reinvent the house, but to freshen the architecture, highlight its lines, and address needed repairs. By the end of this phase, the direction was clear: a brighter, airier home with intentional flow, grounded materials, and a calm, cohesive identity.

With the vision set, we moved into shaping the details that would define The Greige Haven. The home had heavy, dated wall texture throughout — even in the closets — so we made the call to remove it entirely, float the walls smooth, and apply a light orange peel for a clean, modern feel. It was an investment, but one that instantly harmonized the entire home. We also removed the custom plaster crown molding, which unfortunately revealed shoddy workmanship and caused more wall damage than expected — a lesson learned: always test‑remove specialty trim before committing. From there, we committed to all new doors and trim, carrying the shaker style into the custom cabinetry throughout the home for a cohesive look. The windows were structurally sound but visually dated, so instead of replacing them all, we painted the exterior frames in SW Urbane Bronze and the interior frames to match SW Pure White. This simple decision elevated the entire envelope of the home. Every choice in this phase supported the same goal: clarity, warmth, and a unified design language.

The Reveal

When the work was complete, The Greige Haven finally lived the way it was meant to. The new front entry floods the home with light. The wood plank flooring feels intentional and grounded. The walls are clean and modern. The kitchen is cohesive and welcoming. The bathrooms feel elevated and thoughtfully planned. And the flex room adds a layer of livability the home never had before. Bright, airy, and thoughtfully reimagined — The Greige Haven is a home ready for its next chapter.

This is where The Greige Haven truly transformed. Some of the biggest changes happened in the bathrooms — we moved toilets, even on slab, to improve placement and support the spa‑like feel we were after. In the secondary bath, we raised the shower ceiling height, giving the room a sense of openness it never had before. In the kitchen, we made a bold but necessary move: removing the original island and creating a larger cased opening to the living area. This allowed for a galley‑style layout that feels intentional, functional, and perfect for gathering. The addition of chef‑grade appliances completed the transformation. One of the most dramatic changes happened in the awkward room between the garage and den. Years‑old paneling came down, revealing unfinished drywall that had to be floated and textured. We then added heavy self‑closing barn doors, turning the space into a unique, usable bonus/flex room that now feels like it always belonged. This phase was the heavy lifting — structure, craftsmanship, and design working together to bring the vision to life.
